Doesn't it feel amazing to wrap up a long project? That's how I feel about this newest decor packet. It's an idea I've had for a while, and it's finally ready to go. I'm so excited to show you my latest Indigo Shibori Classroom Decor, if you'd like to take a peek!
I fell in love with Shibori dye when I started seeing these beautiful colors and patterns pop up in different design blogs (here and here and here, for just a few examples). When I read how easy it is to DIY, I had to give it a try. We were going to be hosting my husband's family for Thanksgiving, so napkins and dish towels seemed like a perfect (and needed) place to start. I ordered this dye kit, these cotton napkins, and these dish towels, and they ended up being perfect for this project. Because this particular kit can dye a LOT of fabric, I invited a bunch of girlfriends to bring over anything they wanted to dye. It was the perfect impromptu craft party!
I was thrilled with the results. It's pretty amazing what a little bit of blue dye, rubber bands, and cardboard can do. I was so excited about how everything turned out that I went tearing through our house to see what else I could throw in the bucket. Old t-shirts? A table runner? Our duvet cover? My husband had to stop me before I dyed our sofa.
It was out of this newly-found love of Shibori that this classroom decor packet was born. I've said this before, but it's worth saying again--as teachers, we spend more waking hours in our classrooms than we do in our own homes, so if you have a little extra time and interest, it can be worth it to make those spaces beautiful.
My favorite thing about this packet is the focus on the textures of the blues. There's a really limited color palette, which feels really peaceful to me, and it has the added bonus of being a neutral backdrop to all of the bright, colorful student work that will inevitably fill your classroom walls.
In addition to a huge array of pre-made decor elements, I've also put together an editable file with a range of backgrounds so you can customize the look for your specific classroom needs. (Come to think of it, I might even use these labels around our home, too!)
If you're starting a new school year or looking for a little classroom refresh for the middle of the year, you might consider taking a look at this new packet. And please, for my sake, go Shibori dye your sofa cover and tell me how it goes!
